Job Title: Shop Manager - The GABE Shop 

 

Job Type: Part-time, 27 hours per week

Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 9:45am - 4:30pm

 

The Gabriola Auxiliary is looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to manage the day-to-day operations of our boutique thrift shop. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fashion and thrift shopping, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to lead a team of volunteers, plus liaise with the Board.

About the Gabriola Auxiliary:
The Gabriola Auxiliary is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to supporting healthcare initiatives in our community. Our boutique thrift shop is a key component of our mission, providing affordable and unique items, while raising funds to support community programs. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Shop Manager to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the GABE Shop and Ice Cream Cart operations (opening/closing and inventory management).

  • Recruit, supervise, motivate and train a team of volunteers for both the GABE Shop and Ice Cream Cart.

  • Deliver excellent customer service and foster community connections.

  • Responsible for sorting, pricing, and merchandising of donated items.

  • Boost sales through marketing, social media, and events.

  • Handle cash, sales reporting, and other administrative tasks.

  • Maintain a safe and clean shopping environment.

  • Promote the GABE Shop and Ice Cream Cart via social media and print.

  • Assist with Auxiliary promotions and events.

  • Collaborate with the Gabriola Auxiliary's Board to align store goals with the overall mission of the Society.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years retail experience, ideally in fashion or décor/housewares.

  • 1+ years leading/supervising a team (or equivalent).

  • Volunteer/nonprofit experience is a asset, but not required.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills in a supportive environment.

  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment.

  • Hands-on experience with inventory, merchandising, and displays.

  • Experience with Facebook, Canva, Wix, and Google Workspace (or similar tools).

  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
