Meals on Wheels

The Gabriola Auxiliary has partnered with Kiwanis Village Nanaimo to deliver nutritious hot meals to Gabriola residents three days a week, on an ongoing or short-term basis.

Meals arrive on the late afternoon ferry from Nanaimo on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. An Auxiliary volunteer delivers the meal to your door between 4:30pm and 6:00pm.

The cost is $8.00 per meal. There are no charges for delivery.

To arrange for meal delivery, please call
Kiwanis Village Nanaimo at 250-753-1300.

(Office is open 9am to 12pm, M-F)

Drivers to Doctors

Need a ride to your appointments?

Don't have any way of getting to and from medical or other health-related appointments, such as to Life Labs, the dentist, optometrist, registered therapist, or the pharmacy? Drivers to Doctors provides rides to these appointments on Gabriola and in Nanaimo.

FYI:

  • All drivers have been vaccinated.

  • Passengers are required to have had at least two COVID-19 vaccinations.

  • Masks are requested for both drivers and passengers.

  • If the passenger has any COVID-like symptoms the ride will have to be postponed.

  • Drivers to Doctors do NOT have priority boarding for the ferry.

  • Ferry costs for Nanaimo trips are not included. TAP forms will cover most ferry costs. If you cannot get to the clinic to pick one up, please let us know. Click the button below for TAP BC info.

  • If the service is not eligible for a TAP form, such as a pick up from a hospital stay or to a dental appointment, the patient must pay the ferry fees for the vehicle and driver, as well as themselves.

Ready to book your ride?

Call Marni Laird at 250-268-9433 to request a driver. Please give as much notice as possible to allow time to arrange for your ride.
