The GABE Shop is a boutique thrift store staffed by volunteers. We accept donations of clean, lightly-used clothing, craft supplies, and kitchenware. All profits go to Gabriola Island health care initiatives. We also operate an Ice Cream Cart during the summer months.

Need a ride to your appointments?
Don't have any way of getting to and from medical or other health-related appointments, such as to Life Labs, the dentist, optometrist, registered therapist, or the pharmacy? Drivers to Doctors is providing drives to these appointments on Gabriola and in Nanaimo.
Ferry costs for Nanaimo trips are not included. TAP forms will cover most expenses; if you cannot get to the clinic to pick one up, please let us know. If the service is not eligible for a TAP form (such as pick up from a hospital stay or to a dental appointment), the patient must pay for the vehicle and driver as well as themselves.
Drivers to Doctors do NOT have priority boarding for the ferry.
Patients are required to have had at least two Covid vaccinations, and all drivers have been vaccinated. Masks are requested for both drivers and patients, especially for trips to Nanaimo. If either patient or driver has any COVID-like symptoms the drive will have to be postponed or reassigned.
Call Marni Laird ph: 250-713-8018 to request a driver. Please give as much notice as possible to allow time to arrange for your drive.

Hot, cooked meals are provided to seniors on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Non-seniors with a disability, or who are convalescing, are also eligible for the Meals on Wheels program. Meals are prepared at the Kiwanis Lodge and delivered by volunteers on Gabriola, usually between 4 and 6 pm. Currently the cost per meal is $6.75.
New volunteers drivers are
always welcome!
The BC Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries was established in 1945 to promote education, leadership, effective communication, and high standards of performance as key factors in member Auxiliaries’ success. Currently, BCAHA’s member auxiliaries in BC represent more than 6,254 adult volunteers and 350 youth volunteers. In 2018, member Auxiliaries devoted more than 1,235,634 volunteer hours and donated more than $9,946,000 to purchase much-needed healthcare equipment at the local level, and to enhance the care and comfort of patients and their families.
We keep our members knowledgeable with timely information and resource material through our website, a regular newsletter and face-to-face interaction at the local and provincial levels, including annual provincial and regional annual general meetings and conferences.
